Having developed and delivered this training in Surrey for over 6 years, this course has been refined and expanded to adequately prepare governors for this crucial responsibility in academies and maintained schools, complementing any existing support from the LA.

This interactive training with group workshops can be run as one or two sessions.

Part 1 focuses on the value of succession planning and the preparation work required before advertising a vacancy. It covers key aspects of a successful attraction strategy, refining the shortlisting process, task options and guidance on the designing and running a comprehensive selection day process to inform the decision leading to appointment.

Part 2 follows with guidance for designing and managing a comprehensive selection day, techniques for effective interviewing, using the evidence to make the final decision, references, plus recommendations on debriefing candidates and legal post interview procedures.

Outcome

Governors leave with increased confidence and the tools to run an effective, successful recruitment process. Safer recruitment protocols are adhered to throughout.
